LUNGELO GUMEDE'S BIO
Lungelo Gumede was born in Clermont (Durban), KwaZulu Natal, South Africa in the mid-eighties. He spent almost all his school years in the rural area of Ndwende – Durban. His love for the ARTS came when he began observing and copying his Uncle, who was an excellent artist in his own right. After high school, Lungelo pursued his talent, and later attended his first Residency Programme (Visual Arts) at the BAT Centre in Durban – 2000 - 2002, where he graduated with a Certfificate. He also obtained his National Diploma in Fine Arts from Durban University of Technology in 2007.
Lungelo has since exhibited and sold his works in many parts of the world. His status as an artist continues to grow as more people are exposed to his extraordinary talent. Lungelo’s current base is the BAT Centre in Durban where all his works are exhibited and are accessible for free of charge. Lungelo plans to open his first WAX Museum in Durban –South Africa; this is his life-long dream which was inspired by a visit to Madame Tussauds Museum in New York City some years ago. The Museum will exhibit immortalized home grown and some international legends in wax figures
